A 39-year-old suspect, Dolapo Babalola, has confessed to the gruesome m+rder of his close friend in a bid to snatch his motorcycle. Speaking to journalists in Akure, the Ondo State capital, Babalola revealed the sinister details behind the heinous act.
According to Babalola, he and his accomplices, who are still at large, plotted to steal the motorcycle to sell it for personal gain. Despite having committed similar crimes in the past, Babalola confessed that this was his first time resorting to such extreme measures.
Detailing the tragic sequence of events, Babalola narrated how they confronted the victim to seize the motorcycle. When the victim resisted, Babalola admitted to ass@ulting him with a stone, resulting in his tragic dem!se. The motive behind the brutal act remains shrouded in mystery, with Babalola attributing it to malevolent forces.
Babalola, a trader by profession who sells oranges, hails from Oyo State but resides in Ondo town. However, his involvement in motorcycle th€ft has now landed him in hot water with the authorities.
State Commissioner of Police, Abayomi Oladipo, disclosed that Babalola was apprehended through technical intelligence. Further investigation into the matter unveiled the horrifying details of the crime, leading to the arrest of the suspect.
The police chief explained, “Upon reaching the location, they deceived the victim into believing they were inspecting a farm. One suspect, who is now on the run, grabbed the motorcycle rider from behind, while the arrested suspect stru%k him on the h€ad with a stone and repeatedly ass@ulted him with a piece of wood.
They then moved the l!feless body into the bushes, covering it with leaves before abandoning it there. Following the interrogation, the suspect led authorities to the scene where they had left the deceased’s body. We are here now to retrieve the corps€ and proceed with the necessary procedures to facilitate the family’s burial arrangements.”
